| INTRODUCTION |
| The
installation of terracotta has not been claimed (officially or otherwise)
by any trade as yet. We have seen successful installations by masons,
curtainwallers/glazers, metal workers and carpenters. The skills
with which a terracotta rainscreen is installed require measuring,
leveling, and insuring that the substructure is true and plumb before
the tiles are installed. Tiles are placed into clips that are ‘z’
shaped holding both the tile above and below.
There should be very little tile cutting at the site. Tiles are
manufactured to spec at the factory and should fit the design layout
from the drawings. There may be some cutting of aluminum flashings
to fit around openings.
There is no wet work with a terracotta rainscreen system. There
is no mud or mortar coat and no embedding of tiles. There is no
caulking or sealing is required.

| TOOLS
|
While
each project will be different depending on new construction or
retrofit as well as the substrate to which the system will be attached,
we would recommend the following tools be available at the site: |
| |
•
Mechanical/hydrolic rivet gun
• Ideally a metal chop saw but a 9" hand held grinder with
cutting disc can suffice
• Safety goggles
• Laser level or pre marked levels across the building elevation
marked by the engineer at every window location,
• Wet cutting diamond blade tile saw on bed capable of cutting
1 1/4" thick clay tile
• Metal cutting jig saw
• Rubber mallet |

| STANDARD
TOOLS |
Hammer,
tape measure, string lines for length and height of the building,
6 metal clamps, 6' level, tin snips, marking pencils, set square,
hacksaw, rubber mallet, masonry drill and bits to suit the diameter
of the Hilti anchors, power cables and personal safety equipment
as required by local laws and sundry hand tools. |

| PRICING |
Each
project will be priced individually. There are four elements that
may affect the price for the system; the size of the tile, color,
finishes and corner treatments. Larger tiles are most expensive
to produce, store and ship. Colors are achieved by a mixing of natural
clays and lighter colors will increase prices by few points. Various
finishes will also have different values. Corners can be treated
with aluminum channels, mitered pieces or combinations of both,
depending on the design requirements.
The systems have several components please refer to the COMPONENTS
SHEET to correlate with your price sheets. |
