The
MIPIM award, which is presented at the International Real Estate
Fair in Cannes, is considered the Oscar award of the construction
industry. The central office building of the Council of Europe in
Strasbourg was awarded the prize for “The Best Office Building
in the World for 2008”. The most distinct features of this
new construction are a cantilevered roof and a chocolate brown ArGeTon
façade in complete harmony with structural glass.
This unusual color was developed at the special request of the architects
from the ceramic clay color “red brown” following. To
achieve this, the technicians in the ArGeTon GmbH factory in Görlitz
mixed different clay types of various shades. Nearly 30,000 square
feet of Argeton Terracotta Clay tiles were fired for the project
along with 2,000 Barros sunscreen rails for the lower stories of
the building.
Argeton’s parent company, Wienerberger, the largest brick
manufacturer in the world, has invested in a new kiln at the Argeton
plant to significantly reduce unit energy consumption and increase
production to 5,000,000 square feet per year to keep up with the
growing demand in the China, the United States and worldwide interest.
New technologies have been further developed in ‘Engobe’
finishes to reduce the porosity and provide an almost limitless
color range.
Argeton is available in formats up to 60 inch (1,500 mm) in length
and 16 inches (400 mm) in height from a range of 13 natural colors,
in plain and grooved plates, complemented by baguette profiles for
suspended sunscreen applications.
Argeton is sold and distributed by Telling Architectural in the
North America. For further information contact Steve Collins at
